Iganga Mayuge HDSS located 120km from the Ugandan capital, Kampala on 18 November 2018 hosted some participants of the INDEPTH Annual General Meeting.
The tour included the HDSS premises, the district health office, Iganga general hospital and the famous Itamba falls on one of the world’s biggest and longest rivers – the Nile. The centre started operations in 2004 and currently covers a population of 85,536. Apart from collecting data on vital events and migration for individuals and households, the HDSS also collaborates with researchers within and outside Uganda to conduct other studies with a focus on maternal and newborn health, epidemiology of NCDs including injuries and disabilities, health systems research, perinatal mental health, malaria and pneumonia surveillance in under-five children.
